Abstract:
According to the simple view of reading, reading comprehension is determined by two component skills: word reading and listening comprehension. In this talk, she will present findings from an ongoing longitudinal study of the language bases of reading comprehension in children aged 4 to 9. Issues that will be addressed include: the relative contributions of word reading and listening comprehension to reading comprehension in the early stages of reading development; the relations between different critical oral language skills in this age range; and how these different oral language skills predict reading comprehension outcomes. Implications for assessment and instruction will be discussed.
Kate Cain es profesora titular y directora del Departamento de Psicología de la Universidad de Lancaster. Su investigación se centra en las distintas habilidades cognitivas y lingüísticas que apuntalan el desarrollo de la comprensión lectora y la comprensión oral, en niños con desarrollo típico y atípico.
